What is Neurofeedback?

“Think of neurofeedback as a personal brain training session. Training the brain to function at its maximum potential is similar to the way the body is exercised, toned and maintained. Brain training exercises the neural pathways that allow the brain to have better function in a variety of areas.

“Neurofeedback is brain exercise. We observe your brain in action from moment to moment by monitoring your brain waves. We show you your brain activity and we help you to change it by rewarding shifts toward a more appropriate and stable brain state. It is a gradual learning process.” -EEG Institute

We reward the brain during neurofeedback by watching a movie, TV show, or playing a game while hooked up to the neurofeedback equipment. The reward for the brain doing well is a clear, full screen. If the brain needs a reminder to get back on track the screen will shrink or become less clear.

What we like about neurofeedback, in addition to how effective it is and the decades of research behind it, is showing up to the session is enough. You don’t need to be motivated. You just need to be consistent. Clients feel a difference in as little as the first neurofeedback session.
